The First Week of My Holiday

2nd July 2019

To those who are no longer with,

Now, I know this is titled 'The First Week of My Holiday' however, technically it's my second. I came home from University on the 15th June so that I was home in time for Father's Day. I spent the following week at home catching up with best friends I hadn't seen in while. I don't think I have felt this social in a long, long time. I apologise in advance if this turns out to be quite a lengthy post!

Favourite Floof
Tuesday, I went to my friend Paige's, who lives about eight miles outside of my home town and whom I hadn't seen since April, so I went and spent the day with her, her adorably perfect daughter, and her even more adorably perfect dogs. She is one of my best friends and I adore her so much because we can both just sit there, watching films, do our own things, not necessarily even talking, just enjoying each other's company and its perfect. Especially if my favourite floof chooses me as his napping companion.

Wednesday was dedicated to my other best friend from home Sophia, whom I hadn't seen since before Christmas I think so it was very much an overdue catch up that started with me being treated to a Spoons breakfast (Thank You!). Soph had recently moved house, so, after breakfast we did a little bit of shopping for the home, light shades, bins, toasters etc, etc, and then I pretty much ordered her to organise her kitchen so that she at least had one functioning kitchen in her new home. Very much like the day before, no matter what my friend and I do, we always find ourselves very much enjoying each other's company.

I know that only two days of the week involved seeing friends it was actually a very social week for me and I'm pretty proud of it.

The following Saturday was the first anniversary of my grandmother's death which I am unashamedly glossing over as last week's post as entirely dedicated to just that.

Sunday. What a long day. Sunday, mum, dad and I drove, well dad drove mum and myself the two-hundred and ten miles from Boston to Llanfairfechan in North Wales. It took five hours; however, we did play Pub Cricket to keep us occupied and thanks to dads rather unexpected detour, due to the fact we were all under the impression we could suddenly speak Welsh and we missed the important part of the sign we were reading, I won at pub cricket. Yes!

Five hours after leaving, we finally arrived at the little campsite that would become home for the next two weeks and my god, it is beautiful. Anyone who knows me, knows that I have an undeniable love for Wales and this part of the country is no different. It speaks to me on a completely different level than anywhere else.

Our week here in Wales didn't get off to the best of starts. On Monday we took the scenic route into the nearest town/city, in this case Bangor, in order to do the food shop. We get to Lidl, get what we need from there and then we head to Tesco to get what we couldn't in Lidl. We finish up our shopping in Tesco, dad is waiting for mum and I in the car, as we got distracted by the jelly as well as other things...anyway, mum and I get back to the car, I'm really looking forward to the pretzel we bought in Lidl, mum is really looking forward to a bag of chips on the beach, and, the car won't start. Dead as a dodo. Mum waves goodbye to her bag of chips on the beach, I stared longingly at the pretzel in the bag at my feet and dad stands outside with the bonnet of the car up looking for someone to give us a jump start. Well that was the rest of the days, and the day afters plans out the window!

We did eventually get a jump start and get back to the caravan, you will be glad to know.

Unlike most people, my family and I like to have what we call 'getting lost' days. Where we all pile into the car, dad takes a quick glance at a map and then we're off with mum calling directions at every roundabout and junction. 'Links' & 'Recht,' which are left and right in German. Why does mum give directions in German, I don't know, go ask her yourself. I don't know any other families that go on holiday and have days where they purposefully go about getting lost, but, how else are you supposed to discover all the hidden wonders on the place you're visiting if you only stick to the main roads?

Bangor Pier
So, Wednesday was our first get lost day, after we prayed the car would actually start this time, that is. Bangor was first on our hit list that day and as we're driving round, dad noticed the sign postage for Pier. For those of you who are unaware, we are a family that loves the water, not the beach, the water. It holds a special place in all our hearts, so naturally, we headed for the pier.
A View from Bangor Pier

After our fleeting visit to Bangor we headed to the beach local to our campsite, when for a bit of a walk on said beach, I found a really nice shell and when we got to the beach side cafe, I snagged a table and took some artsy shots of my new shell while I waited for mum and dad to join me with lunch.

Llanfairfechan Beach
My Funky Shell
It was after lunch that we went on a real adventure and drove into the mountains that make up Snowdonia National Park and let me tell you, no pictures can do justice to the stunning landscape around here. It is breathtakingly beautiful, especially the valley along the A5 between Pont Pen-Y-Benglog and Bethesda. I consider myself a writer and I cannot find the words to describe just how stunningly beautiful this place is, nor do I have any pictures that do the landscape justice. These memories, apparently are stored solely in my mind, and to be quite honest, I'm perfectly happy with that.

The Wavecrest Cafe aka Paradise
Friday. The beauty that is Anglesey. My little patch of Paradise. My future destination. I will live on there and I will adore the world around me every single day. I will visit the same cafe every day for my morning coffee. I will alternate walking along the bay and the cliff top every morning. I will discover my favourite place to sit and write. Anglesey has stolen my heart and one day I will make it my home.

Wales, I love you, and I can't wait to see what next week has to offer.

So, that is what you missed
Love always

Water
Everything on the earth bristled, the bramble
pricked and the green thread
nibbled away, the petal fell, falling
until the only flower was the falling itself.
Water is another matter,
has no direction but its own bright grace,
runs through all imaginable colors,
takes limpid lessons
from stone,
and in those functionings plays out
the unrealized ambitions of the foam.
